Sunday, July 20th, 2008Memphis-Area Gun Blogger Meet, July 2008
Saturday, July 19th, 2008We had a small group, but much fun was had and it was great to meet new folks.
Tracie was too busy shooting most of the time to take many photos, but this is what we have.
Here I am shooting Squeaky’s carry gun:
Here I am describing to Squeaky the way I plan to crush the heads of my foes with the stock of a 10/22 when the Zombie Apocalypse comes. She is apparently simultaneously awed and horrified.
Here’s Brandon’s little girl shooting Squeaky’s new .22 pistol. I love seeing parents teaching their kids about responsible gun use, and Gracie seemed to be having a great time. Even if she didn’t want to pose with the fake AR-15.
Everybody got a turn with the .22. I think I would have trouble getting used to the sights on the Neos, but it seems as if the sights are only a formality, and it is really intended to have an optic mounted to the top of the frame. With a red dot, it would be a superb competition or plinking gun.
The group shot taken by a range employee. From left to right: Jesse, Squeaky, Brandon (with kiddo), and Yours Truly with my wife Tracie.
I had a blast today, and I hope we can do it again sometime.
Memphis Area Gun Blogger Meet
Friday, July 18th, 2008Is Saturday in Bartlett, coordinated by Squeeky!
Don’t forget, if you’re in the Memphis area (and we even have folks coming from Jackson!), and you’d like to hang with us, you’re more than welcome.
What: Blogger Meetup
When: 2pm, Saturday, July 19th
Where: East End Grill, Bartlett Location on HWY 64
Confirmed Attendees:
Several of us are going to Range USA afterward to participate in shooty goodness. If you don’t want to come to the range afterward, or can’t, you obviously don’t have to. But I’d love it if we could get some more people to come to the lunch and socialize.
You don’t have to be a gun blogger, and I swear we’re all nice people, so if “meeting strangers” squicks you out, then you can’t pick a better group to overcome that fear with. In fact, I’ll be meeting several of these folks for the first time - and that’s the point: to connect with other Memphis area bloggers.
Hope to see you there!
(Next time, you folks have to come to Jackson. Free range time at the FOP range!)
Tracie is going along as my staff photographer. It should be a great time!
Simplification
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007So, Where Ya From?
Saturday, June 30th, 2007My guide for new shooters has gotten lots of linkage during the past two weeks, but it appears that someone else has linked to it. Someone big. Problem: Whoever linked to me used a “nofollow” tag in their link, because when I look at my web statistics, I see this:

If all that the nofollow tag did was hide users from my evil surveilance, I could deal with it. The problem is that it also destroys the ability of “pagerank” search engines (Google) to properly index and rate my site.
Look, I’m thrilled that something I wrote primarily for use by local folks is expanding out and being utilized by others. But by using “nofollow”, whoever is sending all this traffic is destroying my ability to be heard from when I have something else to share.
So what can you do?
If you are a visitor to my site, and were not sent here by anyone on my “Daily reads” list, please comment below and let me know who sent you. Also, please comment on the entry linking to mine, asking them to come here. I have something to say to them.
If you are a webmaster or blogger and have either linked to that entry using a “nofollow” link, or a URI-redirection service like tinyurl, please go read a bunch of reasons why nofollow stinks for users, content providers, and administrators.
Please don’t get snippy with me when I ask you to change the link. I’m asking you to do so because your site is big enough to cause a tidal wave of traffic my way. You got that popularity from somewhere, and I’m willing to guess that part of it was because people linked to your blog entries and the search engines picked up on it. Yes, I know that the URI is long. I also know that HTML allows you to change the displayed text of the link to something shorter. This is less work than configuring a URI redirection, so be smart about this.
Thanks. And take a new shooter to the range this week!
(Possibly) Light Blogging Ahead
Sunday, May 20th, 2007I’m going to be in and out of town for the next two weeks, and am not certain that I will have consistent access to the net, nor am I assured of the free time needed to blog.
What The?

New Domain Name: toolazytofail.com
Saturday, March 31st, 2007Too Lazy to Fail now has a new domain. Links to the old one will still work, as it’s now a mirror, but if friends would be so kind as to change their links from simer.net/paul, I would appreciate it.
I’ve Found a Title
Friday, October 6th, 2006The new title is Too Lazy to Fail, after a story-within-a-story by Heinlein.
So if you find yourself linking often to my weblog, and want something more witty than Paul Simer, you may feel free to refer to this as Too Lazy to Fail, or TLF, or whatever.
Please ignore the timestamp. This is what happens when I study late into the evening, and I will undoubtedly pay for it when I rise to go to class in the morning.
A Blogroll. How Original.
Thursday, September 7th, 2006These are the few, the uncomfortable, the inaugural members of the Blogroll!
Starting Over
Thursday, September 7th, 2006I’ve moved my blog from the old, creaky, spam-rich Greymatter to the sleek, sophisticated, secure WordPress. Frankly, I’m not sure if I want to bother jumping through the multiple hoops required to import my old Greymatter entries, so I shall begin again.
Wow. Wordpress is incredibly easy, and has more polish than the floor in that Pug Bowling video.
More serious blogging in the future. In the mean time, please think of a site name that is witty, thought up by you, but at the same time very much me.
